Product Info:
Any audio equipment that succeeds well in imitating the human hearing has always had a permanent place in the toolbox of audio engineers. The early type of microphones, ribbon microphones, are such devices. It has a natural human-like way of hearing sounds and therefore it in most cases outperforms other types of microphones.
Nothing comes for free though- as our hearing also the ribbon microphone is a delicate and fragile instrument, unable to withstand long periods of time in front of a loud sound source without permanent damage.
Sandhill Audio has managed to solve this annoying problem common to all ribbon microphones, while maintaining their classic tone and behavior. The Sandhill ribbon microphones are constructed by applying modern materials and fabrication methods to the traditional well proven concept. Our in-depth research and product development has given our ribbon microphones more definition, musicality, and most of all convenience never experienced before. Our goal is that you don't need a PhD to record an electric guitar. The Sandhill 6011A ribbon microphone is a versatile and very musical sounding tool for professional use. In addition, it is easy and safe to use. For it's durability it's also the perfect choice for live and project studio situations.
The Sandhill 6011A reacts in an exeptionally musical way to the sound pressure level variations. This feature is really useful in situations like recording loud singers, when typically the tone has a tendency to narrow as the sound level increases. The 6011A is an unbelievably level linear microphone.
The Sandhill 6011A has a flat bass response without the low end emphasizes typical to most ribbon microphones. This is good for recording the kick drum, the upright or electric bass and the electric guitar. The great low end dynamic range makes the 6011A useable in all close-miking situations.Strength
The mechanical structure of the 6011A consists of rigid precision machined aluminum and steel part assembly resulting a resonance free frame for the ribbon.
The ribbon element is electrically conductive composite material making it significantly stronger than traditional aluminum ribbons. This extra strength allows Sandhill to use only minimal screening around the ribbon without the fear of broken transducers. The microphone can handle unbelievably high sound pressure levels without any sign of distortion or physical damage. Sandhill 6011A's custom corrugated ribbon profile is designed to minimize the effect of standing wave modes on a ribbon element.Active circuitry
The active circuitry of the Sandhill 6011A is designed to prevent the preamplifier from damping the ribbon. The circuit works as a very high constant load to the ribbon while providing a low output impedance that any preamp can handle. With active electronics, the ever critical transient response and low end frequency response are optimized. Using passive ribbon microphones with preamps that have a low input impedance is a gamble. Sandhill 6011A will work optimal with any preamp capable of delivering nominal gain and 48 Volt phantom power.
The active circuit is featured with a switchable 6dB preattenuation to prevent electrical clipping with extremely loud sound sources ( >160dB peak) . The preattenuator can be activated from a slide switch located in the electronics cavity of the microphone.Shock mount
Sandhill 6011A shock mount allows one to place the microphone in any position and as close to the sound source as one needs. Due to the mechanical design and Sandhill Audio custom composition, the suspension properties of the shock mount will remain constant in any angular position, resulting in the best possible floor and handling noise rejection at all times.
The contact of the microphone to the shock mount is secured with sturdy M6 machine screw to prevent fallouts.Case
Sandhill 6011A is supplied with water and gas tight High Performance Resin Case. These cases will secure your Sandhill Microphones even out of the hardest airport treatment or a car runover!
